Strategic Theme 03 :: Infrastructure and Planning

Overview :: The Banbridge District is located on the A1 Eastern Sea Board Corridor, which provides high quality and high capacity road and rail links between Belfast and Dublin. The main urban centre is Banbridge followed by Dromore, Gilford and Rathfriland. The area also has 19 small settlements. Some 4,000 new houses have been allocated to the area until 2015. The long-term planning of public services such as roads, transport, housing, education, health and social services are essential to the District’s infrastructure.

Challenges :: The key challenges facing the area of infrastructure and planning within the Banbridge District include the need for more industrial growth, rural planning, protection of the environment and town boundaries, town centre management strategies, investment in the transport infrastructure and maintaining a balance between new housing developments and open green spaces.
Strategy :: Promote the development of physical infrastructure which allows Banbridge to take full advantage of its strategic location.
