Councillor
Frank McQuaid was elected to The Bridge Partnership as a local government
statutory representative. Having lived in the Banbridge area all
his life, he is keen to ensure The Bridge Partnership helps develop
the area from a social and economic standpoint. Additionally, Frank
would like all parts of the District to gain in some way from The
Bridge Partnership’s Integrated Local Strategy and is particularly
interested in developing the economic infrastructure of Rathfriland
and Dromore through outside investment.
Frank’s interest in helping develop the local economy is
evident by his directorship of Banbridge District Enterprises Limited,
a position he has held since 1997. Frank was a member of the former
Banbridge District Partnership from 1998 until Peace I funds from
the EU drew to a close in 2001. Frank has been a governor of Newbridge
College from 1995. He has served on the East Border Regions Committee
from 2001. He is a founding member of the Alliance Party for Northern
Ireland and the Banbridge Alliance Association.
Having been brought up on a farm, Frank has worked in the farming
industry all his life and he has successfully managed to balance
his work commitments with his Council duties. He has spent two terms
in office as a member of the Alliance Party with his first term
beginning in 1993 and his second in 2001.
Married with five children, Frank still lives on the family farm.
When not working or engaged in Council duties, he spends his free
time catching up on current affairs.
