Councillor
Catherine McDermott, a long-serving member of the SDLP and Banbridge
District Council, has always been interested in local affairs and
working towards peace and reconciliation in Northern Ireland. Catherine
views her membership of The Bridge Partnership as a means of continuing
her work in this area. Being fair and ensuring the distribution
of EU funds in an equitable way is a key priority for Catherine
in her role as Chairperson of The Bridge Partnership. She wants
local charities, organisations and individuals from all sections
of the community to benefit from these funds. She is confident that
all members of The Bridge Partnership will work well as a group
in promoting peace, reconciliation and prosperity both locally and
nationally.
During her 20 years service as a local government Councillor,
she has held many key positions and was appointed Chairperson of
Banbridge District Council in 2003. She represents the Council on
many other bodies including the Banbridge Performing Arts Committee,
Catherine worked for over 20 years as a librarian with the SELB.
Widowed with six children, nothing gives Catherine greater delight
than enjoying her pastimes, which include bowling, reading and swimming.
